Nunavut Animal Rescue is operated by the Iqaluit Humane Society is a registered Canadian non-profit dedicated to saving the lives of animals across Nunavut in the Arctic!
MISSION AND VISION
Our mission is to enrich the lives of domestic animals and people through re-homing services, medical care, education, and advocacy for the prevention of cruelty to animals in the Territory of Nunavut. The Iqaluit Humane Society (Nunavut Rescue) is the only animal rescue in Nunavut. We are a no-kill rescue that has been operating since 2007 on sponsorships, donations, and volunteers. We have rescue partners across Canada and have successfully rescued and re-homed over 10,000 animals. In addition to rescuing and rehoming animals, we provide free vet services to low-income families and communities with no vet access, support infectious disease control, and provide education and outreach within communities.
From our inception, we have been a “By Community, For the Community” organization. Our motto for the animals we serve is “Helping Those Who Cannot Help Themselves.” Starting with a handful of volunteers who saw a need in the City of Iqaluit), the society has worked tirelessly to make the organization what it is today, serving several communities and supporting many others as well. We have been a Registered Charity since 2011 and keep our financials in proper order and are in good standing with Nunavut Legal Registries.
Our vision is to be a multi-service, self-sustaining animal rescue designed to foster human-animal bonds that are successful, safe, and positive, while rekindling the pride and knowledge of that Inuit have through their special bond with dogs. Our efforts have given us the practical knowledge needed to make this a reality, advancing knowledge, and resulting in very tangible benefits.
